Paper and Board Sustainability Conversion Manager - Jakarta
Job Description
- In Partnering with the national, regional and global Paper & Board (P&B) Supply Management teams, the Sustainability Conversion Manager leads and co-ordinates the conversion of Unilever Tier 1 and Tier 2 P&B packaging suppliers globally to sustainable sourcing practices in line with Unilever’s sustainable sourcing policy and ambitions.
- The job holder works in close partnership with global Category Supply Management and respective regional supply managers to manage the sourcing activities of global or regional category/brand initiatives related to the procurement and promotion of sustainably sourced paper & board packaging.
- Engage with the Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier base to improve their sustainable sourcing credentials (Chain of Custody certificate, access to certified material) and on the long term and as second step the sustainability of their manufacturing operations (carbon footprint, water footprint, etc.)
- Engage with the international certification bodies and auditing bodies to drive the expansion of certified forest areas globally and especially in Asia, Middle East and Africa.
Qualification
- 5 – 10 years experience in working in the paper packaging industry preferably in the pulp and paper production.
- Preferably expert of paper & board technology and sustainable sourcing.
- Fully operational knowledge of sustainable production criteria and processes in forest management, paper & board production and conversion (SFM Sustainable Forest Management schemes, FM and CoC certifications).
- Working experience as an auditor of a Sustainable Forest Management Certification scheme would be preferable.
- Familiarity with the paper & board producing and converting industry, its key players and markets globally and with a particular focus on Asia, Africa and Middle East.
- Ability to analyse data, devise solutions to problems and new requirements and make recommendations to management team to meet changing operating criteria.
- Good inter-personal skills and capable of working with local and international contacts within Unilever and externally with other businesses, forestry experts, certification bodies, industry associations, Key Opinion Formers (KOFs) and Non Government Organizations (NGOs).
- Fluency in English; other language knowledge such as Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, etc of advantage.
- Good communication and presentation skills and use of IT communication tools.
- Ability to organise own work and act independently as well as managing 3 subordinates in 3 regions.
- Comfortable with working in virtual teams across geographies and time zones.
- Comfortable with flexible working conditions, ready to travel on a regular basis and on a global scale.
- Appreciates challenges, adapts quickly to changes, has strong strategic influencing skills
